The Smoky Paloma

2 min read

This week we're trying something new — mezcal, for the first time in this series. Smoky, bright, and refreshingly different.

Meet The Smoky Paloma

A mezcal twist on the classic paloma. Grapefruit soda and lime keep it light and easy, while the mezcal brings a smokiness tequila just doesn't have. If you've only ever had the tequila version, this one's worth trying — it's not just a stronger paloma, it's a different drink entirely.

You'll need:

  • 2 oz mezcal
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 4 oz grapefruit soda, to top
  • Salt, for the rim
  • Grapefruit wheel, for garnish

How to build it:

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a highball glass and dip in salt. Fill with ice.
  2. Add the mezcal and lime juice.
  3. Top with grapefruit soda and give it one gentle stir.
  4. Garnish with a grapefruit wheel and serve immediately.

New to mezcal? Start with one labeled "joven" or "espadín" — both are approachable entry points before the smokier varieties.

Cheers, and happy Friday. 🥃
