The Tradewind: A Backyard Cocktail With a Little Bite

4 min read

Our second backyard happy hour recipe trades the tropical layers of The Sandbar → for something creamier and brighter — coconut, citrus, and a double pour of rum, finished with a wedge of lime and candied ginger for the full tiki-bar effect.

Meet The Tradewind

Pale and cloudy, with a rich coconut base and a bright citrus kick — this one drinks like a vacation, and it comes together in under two minutes flat.

You'll need:

  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 3 oz coconut cream
  • 1 oz apricot liqueur
  • 1 oz black blended rum
  • 1 oz lightly aged rum
  • Lime wedge, candied ginger and cocktail umbrella, to garnish

How to build it:

  1. Combine the lemon juice, coconut cream, apricot liqueur, and both rums in a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake well (or blend, if you prefer a frozen-style texture).
  3. Strain into a glass filled with crushed ice.
  4. Garnish with a lime wedge and candied ginger (cocktail umbrella optional).

Why It's an Easy One to Make for a Crowd

One shake, one strain — no layering, no special technique. That makes The Tradewind easy to batch ahead of time: mix the lemon juice, coconut cream, apricot liqueur, and both rums together and keep it chilled, then shake with ice and strain fresh as guests arrive.

Make One This Weekend
